Description

Overview
This artwork is inspired by the historic entrance gate of Tera Fort, located in the village of Tera in Kutch, Gujarat. Built centuries ago by the Jadeja rulers of Kutch, the fort is known for its strong stone bastions, carved gateways, and defensive architecture that once reflected the importance of Tera as a historic settlement and trade region.

The artwork captures the quiet presence of the fort through its weathered stone surfaces, aged textures, and enduring structure. More than the architecture itself, it attempts to preserve the stillness and timeless atmosphere often felt around the historic forts of Kutch, where history continues to live through stone and silence.

The Kutch Heritage Fresco Series is a limited collection of individually researched architectural studies, each hand-painted using natural mineral pigments and traditional lime-plaster surfaces. Every piece carries the texture and tactile character associated with historic fresco traditions.

At House of Kutch, we explore the art, architecture, materials, and stories of Kutch through ongoing field research across the region, translating fragments of this exploration into collectible contemporary objects.

Each artwork is individually handcrafted as a one-of-one original, carrying subtle surface variations, tonal shifts, and textures that form part of its unique character.

Natural mineral pigments on handcrafted lime-plaster fresco surface, mounted within a circular teak wood frame with natural oil finish.
