Description

Overview
This piece draws inspiration from Dashanand (Ravana), the ten-headed king from the Ramayana, inspired by the traditional Kamangiri wall paintings of Kutch. The depiction symbolises power, knowledge, and the complexity of character.

Kamangiri is a traditional mural art once found across the walls of homes, palaces, and merchant spaces in Kutch. Over time, many of these painted surfaces began disappearing.

At House of Kutch, we study and document these fading visual traditions through fieldwork across Kutch, and translate fragments of them into contemporary objects.

Hand-painted on reclaimed teak wood, each work carries natural variations in surface, texture, and form making every piece unique.

Material
The painted block is Reclaimed teak wood, Acrylic colour, Teak wood frame with natural oil finish.

Dimensions
Approx. 21cm × 21cm
